LEL's Chemistry Mock Paper

The mock is on everything from Y12 and Y13 across unit 4 and unit 6. It also includes some moles calculations - these should be fairly rudimentary but make sure you know how to calculate yield, atom economy and be able to use the gas equation.

In addition the Y13 topics are:

Benzene
Phenol
Carbonyls
Amines
Amino acids and chirality
Organic synthetic routes
Polymerisation

and you should also be able to answer questions on organic practical techniques including TLC, reflux, recrystallisation and melting point determination. If in doubt please refer to spec point 1.2

Stuff and absence

Hello,

I said I would put some things on the blog, but can't get the scanner to work - so that is not a goer. I have copied up some mark schemes for amines h/w and you can come and borrow one at any point.

I am also not going to be in the 13CCh period 1 lesson on Monday for the first 30 minutes. I have to go an observe another teacher. Please arrive at 0830 though and I will put the work on the board.

You will be producing some organic revision cards, so if you have an A2 text book or course revision guide please bring it along.

Yours
Ms Elias

Year 13

Please complete all questions I have given you on Born Haber cycles.  We will not spend any more lesson time on Born Haber cycles, if you are stuck you MUST COME to A-Level club on Tuesday.

Please also learn all enthalpy definitions

Oh and you should probably be revising already for your mock after Half Term

Best wishes,

Year 13 cover

Dear Year 13,

Please use this morning as time in lieu for an hour that I will ask you to come and practice some practical questions in my room after school.  They will be based on what we do on Wednesday.  I can't give them to you to take away as they are "secure" materials.  (It's a coursework exam from the old syllabus).

You could use this time to work on the Born Haber homework.  Please come to A-Level club after school today if you get stuck on anything.

Best wishes,
ERA

Year 13 Homework

Dear students,

Please see below for your homework for this week.

Revision: To be completed in the next four weeks unless I have asked to see it next week
1) Complete the flashcards that I have started by adding the answers to the questions, or key things to remember about answering the classic questions.  For example on the back of "Calculate the pH of an alkali" you could write 1) Assume [OH-] is equal to original [base] 2) Use Kw = [H+][OH-] to calculate [H+] 3) Use pH = -log[H+].
There are some practice questions to go along with this in the folder below.  I'm not going to print them because there are so many pages and it might bankrupt the school!

2) Complete the open answer practice question on buffers

3) Optional - extra reading on buffer systems in the ocean

Born Haber questions: To be completed for next Wednesday.  Q3 and 9 might take a bit of research.  I have already got a mark scheme for this and we will begin next lesson by going through it.
