ERA Homework for next week

Using the student sheet, on a separate piece of lined paper with the title PAG 10.1 (teacher demo) and the date please write:

1. The method for this reaction, but with suitable equipment included in every step of the method
2. A table of results - make sure you include the quantities of each reagent in this table
3.  Answers to the analysis questions and the extension questions (good exam prep).

Following this, please got to www.bit.ly/PAG101 and make a results table in the google spreadsheet with your name on it.

It should automatically calculate the concentration of iodine and the rate.  This calculation will be different as the concentrations you are given in the PAG are different.

Rates revision ppt

Dear all,

Please use the link below to access a revision powerpoint on the rates topic.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B970e2T7WXvPd3pRNzJ5Zm1TcFE?usp=sharing

It goes through each spec point and gives some ideas for your revision.  It is a starting point only - you should be developing your own revision plans and strategies alongside this.

Best wishes,
ERA

Year 13 - Missing homework

Dear all,

I was meant to set you a homework but forgot :( This was to keep you busy over the holidays and get us ahead a little. If you see this message then the homework is to:

  1.  Research and produce notes on the following reactions of carbonyls - the mechanism for nucleophilic addition reactions of aldehydes and ketones with NaBH4 and HCN to form alcohols and hydroxynitriles respectively

  •   For NaBH4, the nucleophile can be considered as being the hydride ion, H–, with subsequent protonation of the organic intermediate from H2O.
  • v For HCN, initial nucleophilic attack is from CN– ions; subsequent protonation stage can be shown using H2O or H+.

  1. 2      Then to complete a pack of questions on carbonyls. These you can collect from my classroom and are in the deep tray labelled 13CCh.

When I remember how to put files on here I’ll post a copy up.

It is due first lesson in w/c 7th November.

Dear 13D Chemists

Holiday Homework

Please bring a completed version of your method and a print out of your graph on Tuesday 1st November - you will also have a test on rates period 3.

I have uploaded your results into a file linked below:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B-Bvc60KVaFFczNBd0JDQTJMblk?usp=sharing

You will need to write a detailed method for the practical that you carried out in the lesson:
See PAG instructions below:

Records
As evidence for the Practical Endorsement, you should have recorded evidence of all your measurements and any relevant observations in a suitable format. You should also include a record of the equipment that you used, and any adaptations you made to your method while you completed the activity. You should save your spreadsheet with processed data, which will provide a record of the volumes of solutions you used for each experiment. If you keep hardcopy records, you may want to include a printout of your spreadsheet data there too. All work should be clearly dated.

You will also have a test on Tuesday 1st November - the test will be on everything that we have done on rates.

Please email me if you can't access the spreadsheet

Hope you have a restful half-term

Many thanks

Miss Chauhan

Extra difficult questions to help you prepare for the unknown

Dear all,

I found an extra resouce on the web.  They might be good practice for the tricky application/unstructured questions in F324 and F325.  Please look at the "stretch and challenge" folder inside the link below. NB you will have to download the whole folder as it is in zip format atm.

Best,
ERA

Revision stuff

Dear all,

As requested I have uploaded the redox equation practice Q and my answers.  Also you are apparently missing the last set of answers to the analysis past paper questions - these are also in the folder below.

Hope your revision is going well!  You have been very luck to have such miserable weather, I hate revising when it's sunny outside.

Miss Rayment
